Paper Wings Cosplay
[mood |happyhappy]

I just wanted to leave a little note to let everyone know that our BBS is back up.
You can get there from the main website. :)
Ringo and Makoto worked very hard to get everything up and working, so if you get a chance, please come register. Things are quiet now, but we hope to make it an active community again.

I was reading your tutorial on fiberglass. Very helpful, by the way, but I've got onnnnnne more question for ya, if you don't mind.

First off, I'll be using it for a Battle Angel Alita costume...I am at least doing the kneepads, and if it comes out well, then I'm going to attempt the arms. =O What I need to know is, where do I buy all of the supplies and what brand/type/whatever do you recommend? I went to a fiberglass supply website and found like 194957 different kinds, it's too much for me! =X And can you buy it at home depot or something? Thaaaanks.

You can buy everything at your local auto body shop. Sometimes, you can find everything at Wal-Mart.
Bondo brand is the biggest and most widely recognized brand out there, and it's usually what I use. When you're looking at the fiberglass matting, it's easiest to use the woven mesh kind, as opposed to the matted curly kind. Kneepads won't be too hard, and would make an excellent beginner project. You can start by building them with paper mache on top of balloons, and then fiberglassing over that. Keep in mind that fiberglass is not flexible for wear, though.. so while it'd be great for kneepads, it might not work out too well for her arms.
Try www.bioweapons.com for ideas on the arms, and advanced fiberglass casting techniques. :)

Sorry to randomly post in your LJ!

I was looking for an email of the webmaster, but perhaps I'm just lame and couldn't find it.

I was directed to your site from another mb where we are disucssing obi musubi(bows). A girl wanted to know how to tie Yuna's festival obi, saying the only thing similar was a bunko obi (found on your page).

However, the bunko obi looks like this: http://www.rindo.com/105/kimono/obi-img/bunko1.gif. As far as I know, one requires a full obi to tie this, not a half-obi like for yukata. Your instructions look a lot like the chocho obi (butterfly) seen here: http://www.japaneselifestyle.com.au/fashion/butterfly_obi.html.

I think you have accidentally misnamed your obi bow, and thought I should let you know.

Awesome site, though, by the way. The layout is really pretty! Love Tanemura's work. :)

Thanks for pointing that out. :)
It's now on the long website to-do list of doom. DOOM!
When we made the tutorial, we were referencing another website, so it's easy to get things mixed up. We'll change it... if not soon, eventually XD

No problem!

I understand what it's like to have a website to-do list of DOOM. I'm quite behind myself. >.< 3 months, to be exact. *sigh*

But keep up the work! The site is great.

Hello, I am planning my first cosplay ever!

I came over from your Paper Wings site. I emailed this question to the address I found on the site but I'm not sure if the email is active any more.

Anyway, I came across your feather wing tutorial, which was very helpful and gave me a great place to start on constructing my wings. My question is about the durability, though. I'm afraid that wings will be fragile and I won't be able to touch them against anything for fear of them completely falling apart! I'm a little paranoid, so I was thinking you could give me some input. One of the pictures shows the wings on a backpack, so I was wondering how they are holding up.

Thanks for all your help!
